The Month of 5k's

So, what have me and Shane been up to almost every weekend for the last month? Running 5ks. For all you runners out there, 3.1 miles does not seem like much. But for me, who never would run more than 2 miles (if even that), this is a lot! Now the question is..why have we done so many 5ks in the last month? There are multiple reasons. Lately Shane and I have been on an exercise kick. Not obessessing over it, but just realize how good it is for you to get in regular exercise. So there is reason #1. It is a great exercise! Reason #2 is that all the 5ks we have done support different charities. So not only are you doing something that helps us physically but it is helping some great foundations financially. Reason #3 - We have found a hobby that we both love and can do together! I think this is so important in a relationship. Finding fun things to do together! We are both competitve and like to push ourselves to get a faster time each time. We love it. And I will admit, Shane is quite the impressive runner. He ran track in high school, but really hasn't ran since then. And he for sure did not do longer distance running. But within the last 6 month he has taken up running and he has been doing so well in all the races he does! In the race we did this last weekend, he placed 3rd overall! He is just good at everything really..

Race #1 - 5k Run for the Youth of Abilene

Race #2 - Warrior Dash in Dallas.
(By far the most fun race! It was 3.2 miles with 12 obstacles...and lots of mud! My goal was to never stop running and we didn't! Shane was so sweet and stayed with me the whole time! There were thousands of people at this race. It was such a neat experience! Out of my age group, I placed 155 out of 1,158 women! I was pretty excited about that since it was my first mud/obstacle run! If you have not heard of the Warrior Dash, I highly recommend you to look into it here. So much fun! )

Race #3 - Student Dietetic Association 5k

Race #4 - Rescue the Animals 5k
(This race was a special one for Shane and I because not only are we huge animal lovers & love the Rescue the Animals Foundation BUT we both beat our best 5k times! Shane beat his by more than 3 minutes...little show off :) And I beat mine by a minute and a half)

So, that is basically what we have been up to lately. It has been a fun last couple of weeks :)

What a Hoppy Easter Weekend!

Man, I would do anything to get to have weekends like this past one, all the time! So, why was it so great? Well, it all started on Thursday afternoon at work. I had been bummed all week because I was under the impression that I was not going to get Friday off from work. I understood why I wouldn't, but was sad nonetheless. Then on Thursday afternoon one of my bosses informed me that I didn't need to come in Friday. Hello long weekend!! To say I was really excited was an understatement.  So Friday was filled with sleeping in, some cleaning, working out and getting errands done that I've been wanting to get done for a while now. Then Friday night was a little date night for Shane and I. Saturday we woke up super early, well for me at least, and headed off to the park to run a 5k for the Youth of Abilene. It was a little cloudy and super windy, but we finished it in great time and didn't stop running once! We are becoming quite the little runners! We have a couple of other 5ks and fun runs set up for the rest of April that I am pretty excited for!

Then came easter Sunday. Shane and I headed to church in the morning and then went to celebrate the day at Shane's grandparents with all his family, aunts, uncles and cousins. It was so fun to get a chance to all be together and celebrate the true meaning of Easter. We ate some great food, had fun with a pinata (a new Easter tradition), played some croquet, and the crazy kids swam in the cold pool. It was a great day!

All the Haught cousins!
